This is a mixed media piece I call “Progress,” as it deals with the concept of forward motion. It is timely, with the New Year just unfolding. The “train” is constructed from recycled styrofoam, with an overlay of marker and watercolor crayon. The mountainside motif in the background is also symbolic of triangles, pointing upwards, which can be indicative of masculine, or “action-oriented,” energy. The trinity of life, death and rebirth is also symbolized by the triangle. The background was created using a variety of mediums: watercolor paint, crayons and pencils, chalk pastel and markers. It is on heavyweight, mixed media paper, and is 14 x 17 inches.
